Called to respond in a time of darkness or chaos
I vow to show up with a strong & poised presence.
To build rapport quickly & compassionately.
To stay outside a crisis and bring objectivity.
To hold space during emotional outpours.
To act as a chameleon.
To make connections.
To advocate for those who cannot.
To be skilled in seeing what is not said.
To respectfully navigate a scene
& work shoulder to shoulder with my first response partners.
Never jumping to conclusions or quick decisions.
To know limits; my own & others.
To go slow & take time.
To sense when behavior is escalating
& be the calm in the storm.
To benevolently hold the pain that others feel.
To see the honor in being let in.
Crisis clinicians do not stand at the top of a dark hole
& reach down to help;
rather, they climb into the darkness
& provide hope that finding good,
finding light, finding peace, IS possible.
I am called to serve.
I am proud of the work I do.
I am a crisis clinician.
I do the hard work.
I do the heart work!
